Absolute Wonder Woman, Others Named Finalists for 2026 Hugo Awards

The Hugo Awards, one of the most prestigious honors in science fiction and fantasy has unveiled the finalists for its 2026 edition, including the Best Graphic Story or Comic category.

First introduced in 2009, the category continues to spotlight standout storytelling across comics, graphic novels, and webcomics.

This year’s shortlist reflects a diverse mix of mainstream superheroes, literary adaptations, and original voices from across the globe.

Notably, this 2026 lineup includes two superhero titles, a Nigerian author, and an independent webcomic entry.

Here are the finalists:

  • Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon, written by Kelly Thompson, with art by Hayden Sherman & Mattia de Iulis, colors by Jordie Bellaire, and letters by Becca Carey (DC Comics)

  • The Power Fantasy Vol. 1: The Superpowers, written by Kieron Gillen, art by Caspar Wijngaard, lettering by Clayton Cowles (Image Comics)

  • A Wizard of Earthsea: A Graphic Novel, based on the work of Ursula K. Le Guin, adapted and illustrated by Fred Fordham (Clarion; Walker UK)

  • The Space Cat, written by Nnedi Okorafor, with art by Tana Ford (First Second)

  • The Invisible Parade, by Leigh Bardugo & John Picacio (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; Orion UK)

  • A Girl and Her Fed, written by KB Spangler, with art by Ale Presser

One notable absence this year is Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda a series that has become a regular presence in the category. Nearly every volume has earned a nomination in past years, making its omission from the 2026 shortlist a surprising development.

The winners will be announced at the 2026 Hugo Awards ceremony on August 30, 2026. We congratulate the final six and wish them success.
